When the change of consciousness that contemporary man goes through did started?
Through the whole 20th century many different events signified that the human mind and conscious are changing inevitably. At the begging of the last century spiritualism, partly theosophy and different new spiritual movements influenced the appearance of a completely new science that was dealing with the man’s inner world – that was psychology. At the beginning of the 20th century it was common to discuss about the desacralization of all things, like of art, culture, language etc,
The change of human mind and way of thinking initiated new philosophical streams, so the phenomenology and structuralism appeared. Technical science was developing very fast and that make people over-enthusiastic, but also confused. At the beginning of the 20th century was popular to speak about the Zeitgeist, we translate it as the spirit of the age, and it was used to mark the coming of the new era that was supposed to appear with general cultural, intellectual, political and spiritual changes that emerge.
While the breakthrough of the Indian culture and language had enormous influence on European western culture during the 18th and 19th century, the discovery of the Chinese, Japanese and some other exotic cultures had enormous influence on art, culture and thought of all European and Russian cultures of the 20th century.
In the sixties of the last century people were intensively going once again through the similar process as it was at the beginning of the century, especially in America with the non-religious spiritual movement the New Age. In the eighties American and European cultures already integrated eastern culture into their own, in particular: acupuncture, marchal arts, yoga, relaxation techniques, massages and similar. Finally, western astrology also started to have better academic recognition, moainly under the influence of eastern spiritual techniques.
A new scientific insight into the cosmos during the 20th century initiated a new understanding of space and inspired people to think more of space energy laws. The idea of space energy that preoccupied so much the minds of Avant-garde artists at the beginning of the 20th century was attractive again at the end of the century when Feng shui became part of architecture, interior design and some alternative disciplines.
