Well-balanced diet

One of the basic principles of Oriental philosophy, for those who want to preserve youth and be healthy, is to live in harmony with nature and its changes. That is way studio Well-balance uses for different purposes the ancient Chinese discipline yang sheng (literally: nurturing life). This ancient regimen for longevity includes proper diet, correct breathing, regular exercise and herbal remedies.
Much of its theories concerning traditional Chinese medicine occurred in the works of Taoist. According to Taoist philosophy the man and nature is undivided unit;  they felt that if they can integrate themselves with the world around them, they will live happy lives
All changes in nature and social life Chinese explain through the theory of yin and yang.
The change of yin to yang and opposite is the cycle of five processes (wuxing 五行), five phases, five powers, or five elements that determines the cosmos and life on earth. Those phases are symbolically named as: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. They also symbolize five phases of natural season cycles. If one wants to live healthy life he must work on harmonizing of yin and yang in his body, and adapt his oven movement, rest and food to those phases.

In springthe yin principle wanes and the yang principle waxes. In Chinese astrology and medicine spring is connected with the element of Wood (Chinese: 木, mù) which energy is rising, expanding and growing. This element represents all the activities of the body that are self regulative as: digestion, respiration, heart beat and basic metabolism. The liver, organ that converts food into fuel which is then supplied to the muscles, tendons and ligaments, is associated to the Wood element as well as the gallbladder.
In this season people should eat vegetable and easily digested food, since mild and gentle food will not trouble or harm the function of the liver.

In summer
– dominates yang energy, while the ruling element is Fire (Chinese: 火, huǒ) the symbolic of combustion, represents the functions of the body that have reached the fleeting moment of maximum activity. During the summer season the most threatened organs are heart and pericardium, they can be seriously damaged if one eats lot of meat and proteins. Contrary to that our body will benefit from the vegetable and herbs food.

Mid-season, harvest time
– is the time when the nature is ruled by the element Earth (Chinese: 土, tǔ) and yang principle starts to recede. It is the symbol of stability and being properly secured. Earth’s motion is patient, reliable, governed by service and duty to others, stubborn and energetic. Earth is associated with the digestive system, stomach (middle of the body), and the spleen; it is related to the sense of taste.
In this season when yang principle recedes and nature is ruled by the element Earth one should think of protecting the stomach and spleen by eating slightly sweet food, cereals and pulses.

In autumn
- when yin becomes stronger and Metal (Chinese: 金,  jīn) dominates the nature, energy is consolidating and with inward movement of the nature, people should also became more passive and prepare themselves for winter. Metal’s motion is determined, forceful, self- reliant, reserved and sophisticated. In this time we should think of protecting our lungs, respiratory system and nose because those organs are weak in this time.
Preventive medicine advices us to eat rice, a bit of spice food, and to cook strong meat and vegetable soups.

In winter
when the time of element Water (Chinese: 水, shuǐ) comes, we should behave in accord with this element that has the capacity to flow, and is infinitely powerful, silent, flexible, ever changing, with the stored potential and the capacity to nourish and cleanse. As well it is the fluid (the main component of the body) which nourishes and maintains the health of every cell. Water corresponds to the skeletal and excretory system the same as to the vital fluids, as are blood, lymph, mucus, semen and fat and is related to the lung. The kidney is especially linked to this element.  If we wish to protect our kidney we should eat food reach in proteins as meat, fish and pulses.

Well-balanced diet is the big subject within the frame of Feng shui discussions in European and American countries. A balanced diet here means eating the right food in each season, according to ones age and general body and mind condition. It also means eating healthy, nutritious food and natural products.
