Apparently a significant shift of the masculine and feminine principles occurred
The early 20th century art implied the forthcoming shift of the two principles. By using the terminology of Chinese philosophy we can explain what is happening like the change of yin and yang principles on the macro plan. Yung was writing about that in the similar manner: collective Anima was suffering for a long time under the rulership of collective Animus in antic Greek, Christian and similar cultures.
Those cultures are now flooded with the whole bunch of movements fighting for the rights of feminists and homosexuals. Both of those cases are dealing with the same subject: looking for the balance between mail and female elements on social, macro and individual plan. It seems that the masculine principle, the ruling principle in Egyptian culture (The Sun), Ancient Greek culture (Heaven, Jupiter,) and in Christian culture (The God, The Father and The Sun) should make a bit more space for the feminine principle (The Earth, The Mother, The Moon). It seems that our direction for the future is down, not up.
In the book Relating (S. W., Inc, York Beach, ME, 1977) the author Liz Green, explains how the big confusion about the question of sexuality is connected with the problem of collective Anima.
