The symbolism of five elements is widely used in Feng shui. Perhaps you would be surprised to see that there are five of them (Water, Tree, Fire, Earth and Metal), while in the European tradition we speak about four elements (Water, Earth, Air and Fire).
According to Feng shui certain elements, colours and symbols support weakness or destroy one sector of an apartment or a house. Here are some basic written symbols of  concrete sectors.

Meaning: carrier, vocation, life path
Direction: North
Element: Water
Basic color: blue, black
This sector is:
- strengthen by the element Metal and all colors of metal  
especially gold, silver and white
- weakened by element Wood and green color
- destroyed  by Earth and ochre, beige and brown colors.
Symbolism: everything that symbolizes water or contains water – aquarium (if the sleeping room is not in this sector), pictures of the sea or sea animals, waterfalls etc. Fluids can be stored in here.


Number:  2
Meaning: partnership, love, relationships
Direction: Southwest
Element: Earth
Central sector of yin energy.
Basic color: ochre, beige, brown
This sector is:
- strengthen by the element Fire and red, orange and pink colors
- weakened by element Metal, all metal colors and white color
- destroyed  by element Wood and green color.
Symbolism: everything that comes from the earth, ceramic objects and crystals. Here can be placed everything that symbolizes yin energy, as: pillows, blankets, soft fabrics etc.

Meaning: older people, family, tradition, past
Direction: East
Element: Wood
Basic color: green
This sector is:
- strengthen by the element Water and colors blue and black
- weakened by element Fire and colors red, orange and wine red
- destroyed  by element Metal, all metal colors and white color.
Symbolism: plants, especially tall ones, music and musical instruments, paintings or photos of older people and the family.


Number: 4
Meaning: prosperity, wealth, blessing
Direction: southeast
Element: Wood
Basic color: green
This sector is:
- strengthen by the element Water and colors blue and black
- weakened by element Fire and colors red, orange and wine red
- destroyed by element Metal, all metal colors and white color.
Symbolism: everything that symbolizes entireness and prosperity, as sculptures of Buddha for example. According to eastern mythology hare can be placed sculptures of fortune animals. This sector should be illuminated. Plants can be here as well.


Number: 5
Meaning: Tai qi – middle, health, unity
Direction: this is the center; it is connected with the health of the family members, it influences the balance and stability of the inhabitants. The energy collects in here and divides from here.
Basic color: yellow
This sector is strengthen if you keep it clean, in a good order, even empty, without impediments. Here should be placed the crystal, precious stone or jade for example, as the symbol of protection.

Meaning: Helpful people, patrons, friends, travel
Direction: northwest
Element: Metal
Central sector of yang energy.
Basic color: all metal colors, silver, and white;
This sector is:
- strengthen by the element Earth, colors ochre, beige and brown
- weakened by element Water, and colors blue and black
- destroyed by element Fire and colors red, orange and wine red.
Symbolism: metal objects, bells, coins etc. Discrete light will bring benefits to this sector.
